A Rising Star: Sarah Elizabeth Schantz Strikes Again!

Congratulations to recent JKS graduate Sarah Elizabeth Schantz! Her story “Stillborn” is the winner of Monkey Puzzle Press’ 4th Annual Flash Fiction Contest. You can read the full story here. Sarah had a big year in 2012, and it looks like she’s hitting the ground running in 2013! Congratulations, Sarah!

Sarah has an MFA in Writing & Poetics from the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics. While “Stillborn” works as a short story, it is an excerpt from her first novel, The Calendar of Ordeals. In 2011, she won first place for a fiction contest hosted by Third Coast and in 2012 she was the recipient of the Fall Orlando Prize in Short Fiction hosted by the foundation A Room of Her Own. She collects owl figures, white nightgowns, Lotus slippers, dolls and Blue Willow.
