Bad Shadow Affair: featuring JKS Director Michelle Naka Pierce

Friends! It is 2013 now! It’s time for the first Bad Shadow Affair of the millennium! (or something else, I’m bad at knowing things.) Please come hear Michelle Naka Pierce, Lawrence Giffin, Nick Gulig, and Dan Beachy-Quick. It will be nice to see everyone! Over and out.

Born in Japan, Michelle Naka Pierce is the author of Continuous Frieze Bordering Red (2012), awarded Fordham University’s Poets Out Loud Editor’s Prize; She, A Blueprint (2011); Beloved Integer (2007); and TRI/VIA (2003). Pierce is associate professor and director of the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics at Naropa University.

Lawrence Giffin is the author of Get the Fuck Back into that Burning Plane (Ugly Duckling Presse, 2009), Sorites (Tea Party Republicans Press, 2011), Ex Tempore (Troll Thread, 2011), and a split chapbook with Lauren Spohrer, Just Kids (Agnes Fox Press, 2012). He lives in Durham, NC.

Born in Wisconsin, educated in Montana and Iowa, Nicholas Gulig currently lives in Colorado where he is PhD candidate at the University of Denver. He is the recipient of awards for poetry from CutBank, Red Hen Press, Camber Press, and the Black Warrior Review, as well as a Fulbright Fellowship to Thailand in 2011. His first full-length collection of poems, North of Order, is forthcoming from YesYes Books in the September.

Dan Beachy-Quick is the author of four collections of poems, most recently, Circle’s Apprentice (Tupelo Press), and A Whaler’s Dictionary (Milkweed Editions), a collection of essays about Moby Dick. His honors include a Lannan Foundation Residency. His poems have appeared widely in literary journals, including The Boston Review, The New Republic, Fence, Poetry (magazine), Chicago Review, VOLT, The Colorado Review, Paris Review, and New American Writing, and in anthologies including Best American Poetry 2008 and in a chaplet, Sleep/Echo/Song (Wintered Press, 2006).

Join us for a showcase of performances and presentations, featuring national and international artists featured in the Postscript exhibition.

Anything can happen.
Session 1:
10:30AM–NOON
James Hoff speaks on viral language and Will Holder performs from his journal F.R.DAVID.

Session 2:
1:30–3PM
Craig Dworkin talks about the most conceptual of artworks, Seth Kim-Cohen speaks about other people’s styles and Nick Thurston elaborates on publishing and contemporary art.

Tickets are $10/$5 members and students, per session
Lunch is available for $10, pre-purchase required

The Publishing Workshop at CU-Boulder, in conjunction with Subito Press, presents the second annual Small Press Publishing Panel.

Publishers & editors from national literary presses and journals will discuss their various projects and engage in a conversation about small press publishing.
